This blended course will provide a hands-on, multi-media learning environment for students to expand their knowledge of sustainability in the built world. All students will participate online; attendance of face-to-face field trips to National Grid Headquarters and Artist for Humanity, and lectures from specialists in the field are optional; those students who opt not to attend the face-to-face meetings will view video recordings of the field trips and the guest lectures.

Senior design course on energy use in buildings. Psychometrics, comfort conditions, heating and cooling loads for buildings. Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment design and selection. Energy recovery and conservation methods.

Intro Stats/Soc Sci

Designed for students in the social science and business related fields of study. Introduction to basic statistical methods used to collect, summarize, and analyze numerical data. Emphasis on application to decision making; examples from the social sciences and business. Topics include: common statistical notation, elementary probability theory, sampling, descriptive statistics, statistical estimation and hypothesis testing. Basic algebra and familiarity with computer and internet necessary. (Gen.Ed. R1, R2)

Advanced Microbial Physiology

The main aspects of bacterial growth, including energy metabolism, biosynthesis of macromolecular precursor materials and their assembly into macromolecules, and the integration of these processes by various regulatory mechanisms. Emphasis on the isolation of mutant bacteria blocked in key cellular functions and on global control systems governing the adaptation of bacteria to different environmental conditions. Prerequisite: general background in microbiology and biochemistry.
