Crystal Chemistry

Crystal structures, site populations, compositional variations, polymorphism, structurally related physical properties, and classification of rock-forming silicates and oxides at upper undergraduate level. Prerequisites: GEO-SCI 311 and 321 or equivalent.

S-Morphology

Introduction to the structure of complex words. Examples from English and from a variety of other languages. Introduction to theoretical approaches to the study of the structure of words.

Field Methods

Provides hands-on experience in linguistic analysis. Students elicit language data from the speaker of an unfamiliar language, both in class and individually. Under the guidance of the instructor, students analyze various aspects of the phonology and syntax of the language.

The Earth Transformed

This course is a wide-ranging introduction to current environmental and conservation issues and their historical and geographical contexts. Special attention will be placed on examining the processes that so transformed the earth during the 20th century and to the key political, economic, social, cultural, and ecological factors in environmental change today.
