Human Variation

Review of contemporary human variation in demography, morphology, physiology, and genetics. Emphasis on explaining, not just categorizing, the differences. Inter- and intra-population variation around the globe. Prerequisite: ANTHRO 103, introductory biology.

Equine Care Techniques

An introduction to the theory, technique and practice of skills required as an equine care technician to prepare horses for daily work, competition, and formal turnout/presentation. Wide range of horses, including foals, yearlings, two-year olds, broodmares, stallions, and equitation horses. Emphasis on sound business management practices, including record keeping, horse sales, personal safety, and professionalism.

S-Languages of War (1914-1945)

This course explores key literary and artistic representations of two traumatic conflicts that dramatically shaped the history of the twentieth century: World War I (1914-1918) and World War II (1939-1945). The course proceeds by intertwining a theoretical discussion of hermeneutical paradigms of modern warfare, a comparative methodology, and a historical approach to war narratives, films, and memoirs.

S-Evil in Modern Culture

This course aims at scrutinizing and understanding evil as manifested in selected cultural artifacts and philosophical texts from the Enlightenment through the Cold War. The so-called problem of evil, radical evil, sadism, the connection between the ideals of the Enlightenment and evil, absolute enmity, genocide and absolute war are some of the topics to be discussed. At the course?s core intersect ethical, political, and artistic issues that concern us all. Throughout the semester, we will ask questions such as: What do we mean when we say ?evil??
