Peer Learning Mentoring

Students enrolled in this course attend weekly pedagogy sessions led by the instructors and facilitate a weekly PLTL session (1 hour) for a pre-assigned group of 8 to 10 students from CHEM 111 or CHEM 112. This course trains students to become effective leaders for Peer-Led Team Learning (PLTL) groups in the large enrollment general chemistry courses. The weekly pedagogy sessions will equip students with collaborative learning strategies, group facilitation techniques, leadership skills, and communication skills.

Computer Networks

Introduction to computer communication networks and protocols. Fundamental concepts in the design and analysis of computer networks. Topics include: layered network architectures, networked applications, network programming interfaces, transport, congestion, routing, data link protocols, local area and data center networks, network security, and wireless networks. Examples drawn from the Internet (e.g., TCP, UDP, and IP) protocol suite.

The Solar System

Lecture: For nonscience majors. Introduction to the physical characteristics of the earth, moon, planets, asteroids and comets, their motions and gravitational interactions. Recent discoveries of space probes relative to formation of the solar system and origin of life. Lab: Multiple sections. For nonscience students. Introduction to the night sky, telescopes, astronomical events, and celestial maps. Visual and telescopic observations of the constellations, moon, planets, stars, and other interesting astronomical objects. (Gen.Ed. PS)
