Math-Elem Tchrs I

Fundamental and relevant mathematics for prospective elementary school teachers, including whole numbers and place value operations with whole numbers, number theory, fractions, ratio and proportion, decimals, and percents. For Pre-Early Childhood and Pre-Elementary Education majors only. Prerequisite: MATH 011 or satisfaction of R1 requirement. (Gen.Ed. Introduction To Journalism

Introduction to Journalism is a survey class that covers the basic principles and practices of contemporary journalism. By studying fundamentals like truth telling, fact checking, the First Amendment, diversity, the watchdog role of the press and public engagement, students will explore the role of the journalist in a democratic society. Students will also assess changes in the production, distribution and consumption of journalism through new technologies. Students will examine case studies across the media, and learn how different audiences, media and perspectives affect the news. (Gen. Ed.

Japanese through Anime & Drama

This course explores Japanese language and culture through the engaging mediums of anime and drama. Designed for students with a foundational knowledge of Japanese, this class will use popular anime series and Japanese TV dramas to introduce colloquial expressions, cultural nuances, and conversational patterns commonly used in everyday Japanese. Students will be engaged not only in learning passively from the materials provided but also in developing autonomy to create personalized learning plans that enhance their knowledge.

Public Speaking

This course blends theory and practice in exploring public speaking. The theory of speech composition, presentation, and evaluation is discussed in relation to public discourse, civic engagement, and the ethics of persuasion. Students also practice and develop their own skills by giving several formal and impromptu speeches. Requirements include the ability to pre-record speeches.

GIS for Engineers

Introduction to fundamental principles and concepts necessary to carry out meaningful and appropriate geographic analysis with geographic information science (GIS). Reinforcement of key issues in GIS such as geographic coordinate systems, map projections, spatial analysis, use of remotely sensed data, and visualization of spatial data. Laboratory exercises use database query, database manipulation, and spatial analysis to address problems in hydrology, water treatment, renewable energy, and transportation with an emphasis on engineering design.

S-Studnt Leadership Developmnt

This course is designed to enable student leaders to begin developing their leadership skills. The topics covered will allow students to: gain skill development on a range of topics; build community connections; explore literature related to leadership theory; increase self awareness and awareness of others as members of social groups; and strengthen residential student leadership programs.

DigitalTools&Apps/21stCStudent

In this course, you will explore a variety of digital tools and apps that can enhance teaching and learning. You will discover how to find digital tools and apps by cultivating a digitally enhanced professional learning network. You will learn how to critically evaluate digital tools and apps in order to make informed decisions about which tools to use in educational settings, and you will learn how to design innovative, inclusive, and accessible learning experiences with digital tools and apps.

Experimental Methods/SocialSci

From policy "nudges" to marketing to social mobilization, experimental research helps shape many aspects of political and social life. In the course, you will get a chance to participate in, discuss, and learn to design and analyze a wide range of experimental treatments and outcomes. In addition, the course will introduce students to computational tools and software used to design and analyze experiments.

Or, perhaps you are interested in writing literary journalism, memoir, biographical profiles, feature articles, or some other creative nonfiction project you've always hoped to get to. If creativity is at the heart of your honors project, this seminar will assist you in developing a concept, as well as refining and reflecting on the process for archival purposes.
