Amharic II

Amharic II is the second part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Amharic. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Amharic develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Ethiopia and to support course work in African Studies.

Albanian II

Students studying Albanian develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in the Albania and to support course work in Eastern European Studies.

Afrikaans II

Afrikaans II is the second part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Afrikaans. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Afrikaans develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in South Africa and to support course work in African Studies.

Turkish Senior Research

Advanced Turkish Senior Research I is for students working on an advanced Turkish research project or thesis. Students develop skills in describing and narrating in detail, expressing opinions, giving reasons for opinions, and cross-cultural communication. Students develop vocabulary necessary to discuss and write about their chosen topic in Turkish.

Swahili Senior Research I

Advanced Swahili Senior Research I is for students working on an advanced Swahili research project or thesis. Students develop skills in describing and narrating in detail, expressing opinions, giving reasons for opinions, and cross-cultural communication. Students develop vocabulary necessary to discuss and write about their chosen topic in Swahili.

Adv Swahili/Development Policy

This is a course in advanced Swahili speaking, listening, reading and writing. The course is offered through the Five College Mentored Language Program. The content of the course focuses on economic development and educational opportunities in East African countries. Students develop skills in describing and narrating in detail, expressing opinions, giving reasons for opinions, and cross-cultural communication. Students develop vocabulary necessary to discuss economic, political, and social-cultural topics in Swahili.

Adv Hindi & Urdu for Health

Advanced Hindi and Urdu for Health and Human Services is a course for advanced speakers of either Hindi or Urdu. This course is part of the Five College Mentored Language Program. The goal is to develop vocabulary and cultural knowledge needed to have conversations about health and human well-being in Hindi and Urdu speaking contexts. Course materials include a diversity of speakers using various styles of Hindi and Urdu.

Written Persian I

Persian for Speakers I is designed for students who have advanced fluency in spoken Persian but need to learn to read and write. The course is offered through the Five College Mentored Language Program. The course format includes individual tutorials. A placement interview is required. The course includes a complete review of Persian grammar and structure. By the end of the course, students should be able to read standard Persian and be able to compose simple texts such as dialogues, paragraphs, and letters in written Persian.

Vietnamese/HeritageSpeakrs1

Vietnamese for Heritage Speakers I is an entry-level course for students who already have some basic speaking skills in Vietnamese. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Vietnamese develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Vietnam and to support course work in Asian Studies.

Urdu for Urdu-Hindi Spkrs I

Urdu for Hindi-Urdu Speakers I is for advanced speakers of Hindi or Urdu who want to learn to read and write in Urdu. The course is offered through the Five College Mentored Language Program. The course format includes small group conversation sessions and individual tutorials. Students studying Urdu develop speaking, listening, reading, writing, and cultural etiquette skills needed for study abroad in Pakistan or India and to support course work in South Asian Studies.
