Urban America
This course focuses on contemporary urban issues in American cities, starting with the post-war era. The course examines the following topics through the lens of new urban sociology: modernity and modern cities; urbanism as a way of American life; critical urban theory; poverty and ghettos; urban ethnography, gentrification and displacement; urban branding; global cities; immigration and gateways; ethnic enclaves; financial crisis; and the right to the city movement.
