Soil Ecology

Biological processes found in the soil are essential to life on Earth. This course will introduce students to soils as their own ecosystem. Throughout the course, we will weave together descriptions of the diversity of life found within soils, plant-soil interactions and biogeography to paint a mosaic of soil life, its complexity and global importance. The final portion of the course will address the global challenges facing soil ecosystems and the potential of the soil health movement.

Undocumented Immigrate to US

Who are America?s undocumented immigrants? Why do they come to America? Why do they leave their home countries? What?s it like being an undocumented immigrant in America? How do they interact with American institutions (e.g., police, schools, hospitals, churches, neighborhood organizations, social clubs, the labor market, etc.)? What are the laws constricting the life of an undocumented immigrant? What are their expectations, values, beliefs, assumptions and dreams? How do other American groups (other immigrants, natives) perceive undocumented immigrants?

Are you interested in making video games and making a positive impact on the world around us? In this class, we will discuss the status of video games in society, play some games, explore social justice aspects we are interested in, and create our own video games that promote positive change. No prior technology skills required!

HFA Connect RAP: Inequality, Injustice & Mindfulness in the Humanities and Fine Arts is an interactive First Year Seminar designed to support students enrolled in the College of Humanities and Fine Arts (HFA), either as an HFA major or a student in the HFA Exploratory Track. Through using creative and mindful-based contemplative practices such as journal writing, drawing and coloring, this course supports first year students interested in the humanities and fine arts as they critically explore and examine issues of inequality and injustice.
