S-Qualitative Inquiry/SportMgt

The purpose of this class is to introduce students to theories, methods, and philosophies of qualitative inquiry used in sport management. In this discussion-based seminar, we will cover (1) the history, ethics, and politics of qualitative inquiry, (2) theoretical paradigms, (3) specific methods (e.g., interviewing, observation, text analysis) and methodologies (e.g., case study, ethnography, narrative inquiry) of qualitative inquiry, (4) analyzing and interpreting qualitative material, and (5) evaluating qualitative research.

S-Dark Side/InformationSystems

The course will introduce you to the negative phenomena associated with the use of Information Systems (IS). The ubiquitous use of IS and data in the organizational and personal domains has given rise to non-beneficial, if unintended consequences. Understanding why and how these "dark side" phenomenon happen is necessary, to identify IS design, management and use issues that are relevant to them - and that IS research should squarely tackle.

ST-Stochastic Models

Modeling and solution of decision problems under uncertainty. Topics include stochastic dynamic programming (Markov decision processes), covering both finite and infinite horizon problems; and stochastic linear/integer programming. Several computational techniques and applications are presented.
