ST-Dari I

Dari I is the first part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Dari. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Dari develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Afghanistan and to support course work in South Asian Studies.

ST: Swahili Senior Research

Advanced Swahili Senior Research I is for students working on an advanced Swahili research project or thesis. Students develop skills in describing and narrating in detail, expressing opinions, giving reasons for opinions, and cross-cultural communication. Students develop vocabulary necessary to discuss and write about their chosen topic in Swahili.

S-I Moroccan Arabic II

Moroccan Arabic II is the second part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Moroccan Arabic. The course develops speaking and listening skills in colloquial Moroccan Arabic. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and a final evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Moroccan Arabic develop skills needed for study abroad in Morocco and to support course work in Middle Eastern, African and International Studies.

ST- Haitian Creole V

Haitian Creole V is an intermediate-level course for students who have completed Haitian Creole I-IV or the equivalent. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Haitian Creole develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Haiti and to support course work in Caribbean and/or Francophone Studies.

ST- Haitian Creole VI

Haitian Creole VI is an intermediate-level course for students who have completed Haitian Creole I-V or the equivalent. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Haitian Creole develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Haiti and to support course work in Caribbean and/or Francophone Studies.

Haitian Creole for Heritage Speakers II is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Haitian Creole develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Haiti and to support course work in Caribbean and/or Francophone Studies.

ST-HaitianCreole/HeritageSpkrs

Haitian Creole for Heritage Speakers I is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Haitian Creole develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Haiti and to support course work in Caribbean and/or Francophone Studies. This course is an entry-level course for students who already have some basic speaking skills in Haitian Creole.

ST-Cantonese/MandarinSpkrs1

Spoken Cantonese for Mandarin Speakers I is the first part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Spoken Cantonese for Mandarin Speakers. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Cantonese develop speaking and listening skills needed to live and work in China or Hong Kong and to support coursework in East Asian Studies.

ST-Topics in Advanced Czech II

Topics in Advanced Czech II focuses on developing advanced reading and speaking skills, expanding vocabulary, and improving the ability to describe/narrate in detail and support opinions. Topics are chosen in consultation with the program director. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Czech develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in the Czech Republic and to support course work in European Studies.

S-I Yoruba I

Yoruba I is the first part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Yoruba. Yoruba is one of the primary languages of Nigeria and also spoken in diaspora communities in Brazil and the Caribbean. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Yoruba develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in West Africa and to support course work in African and African-Caribbean studies.
