Serbo-Croatian I

Serbo-Croatian I (Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian I) is the first part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian. The course format includes small group conversation sessions and individual tutorials. Students studying Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian develop speaking, listening, reading, writing, and cultural etiquette skills needed for study abroad in Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia, or Montenegro and to support course work in European Studies or Balkan Studies.

Swahili I

Swahili I is the first part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Swahili (Kiswahili). The course is offered through the Five College Mentored Language Program. The course format includes small group conversation sessions and individual tutorials. Students studying Swahili develop speaking, listening, reading, writing, and cultural etiquette skills needed for study abroad in East Africa (especially Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda) and to support course work in African Studies.

Hindi I

Hindi I is the first part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Hindi. The course is offered through the Five College Mentored Language Program. Students studying Hindi develop speaking, listening, reading, writing, and cultural etiquette skills needed for study abroad in India and to support course work in South Asian Studies.

Urdu I

Urdu I is the first part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Urdu. The course format combines independent study with small group conversation sessions and one-on-one tutorials. Students studying Urdu develop speaking, listening, and basic literacy skills needed for study abroad in Pakistan or India and to support course work in South Asian Studies.

Indonesian I

Indonesian I is the first part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Indonesian. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Indonesian develop speaking, listening, and basic literacy skills needed for study abroad in Indonesia and to support course work in Southeast Asian Studies.

ST-Nepali I

Nepali I is the first part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Nepali. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. Mongolian IV is the fourth part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Mongolian. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Mongolian develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Mongolia and to support course work in Asian Studies.

Filipino II

Filipino II is the second part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Filipino, the national language of the Philippines, developed from Tagalog and other regional languages. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Filipino develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in the Philippines and to support course work in Southeast Asian Studies.
