ST-Intro/American Deaf Culture

Introduction to American Deaf Culture is being offered as a course through the Five College Mentored Language Program in Fall 2018. The prerequisite for the course is Advanced American Sign Language B or the equivalent. The course will build on communication skills learned in Advanced ASL B. Students will learn to communicate appropriately in a wider range of interpersonal situations while increasing fluency and comprehension.

North American Archaeology

The history of Native North Americans from their arrival on this continent, sometime between 80,000 and 12,000 years ago, up until their initial contact with Europeans. Archaeology as a source for the telling of history sensitive to voices often excluded from the written record. (Gen.Ed. HS, DU)

Case Studies/US Health Policy

In this course, students will learn about basics of the policy process in the United States, with a focus on issues pertaining to health and healthcare. Students will develop an understanding of how political factors and aspects of the policy environment shape public health and the provision of healthcare services at both the national and state level.

Topics in Philosophy Of Art

This is a course on some of the central topics in the philosophy of art, including (i) The Demarcation Problem (what is art?), (ii) The Existential Problem (what is art for?), (iii) the ontology of art objects (are novels and musical compositions created or discovered?), and (iv) the nature of aesthetic value

ST-Barcelona & Catalan Culture

This course offers an interdisciplinary overview of the city of Barcelona and Catalan culture, encompassing the most salient aspects of its society, languages, literature, cinema, art, music, and traditions. The course allows students to familiarize themselves with key aspects related to the modern making of the city and, at the same time, serves as an introduction to Catalan literature, art, and film.
