Marching Band Administration

Marching Band Administration provides opportunities for students to become involved in the administration of the Minuteman Marching Band. Students assist with the care and maintenance of equipment, engage in publicity of the Band, help recruit new students, and address the needs of running the 360 person operation.

ClassicalArabicLit/Translation

The haunting beauty of the dark eyes of the gazelle, the shining glory of the crescent moon in the desert, and the joyous ode to wine and merrymaking ? Arabic poetry is all that, and much more. In this course we study the emergence of Arabic Literature from the earliest periods into its flowering as a major literary tradition of our World. The course is widely accessible and open to all levels.

Political Polarization

By any measure, and at all levels, American politics is deeply polarized along partisan lines, often asymmetrically so. This tribal division along partisan lines has changed the tone of political discourse, impacted the ability of our government to function, and even spread into apolitical facets of American life. This class will delve into the origins, psychology and social dynamics of this hyper-polarization. We will seek to understand the nature of this division and examine its implications for government, society and the future of American democracy.

Representing the Holocaust

Major writers, works, and themes concerning the Holocaust and its representation and commemoration. Exploration of narrative responses (including film, memoirs, poetry, video testimony, music, and memorials) to the genocide of European Jews and other peoples during World War II. (Gen.Ed. AL, DG)

Planning Tools & Techniques

This class focuses on enabling students to create their planning toolbox for use at the local or regional level in urban and regional planning, sustainability, resilience, architecture, public policy, conservation, and/or landscape architecture. It is a hands-on examination of the tools and techniques communities use to implement their vision.

Digital Behavioral Data

Algorithms and data increasingly power our private and civic life. Companies, nonprofits, and governments have invested heavily in data mining - the bulk collection of user behavior data from web platforms to understand public opinion and to forecast trends. A lot of fashionable terms, such as artificial intelligence and big data, are being thrown around these days. The public and regulators also become increasingly wary of the dark side of algorithms ?

African History/Lit and Film

This course approaches modern African history through the lens of literature and film, with a focus on cultural production from twentieth-century West Africa. How do artistic forms shape popular perceptions of Africa? How do they influence how we remember and interpret historical events? Can we use them as historical sources? Why or why not? Topics include resistance to and collaboration with European colonialism, marriage and motherhood, neocolonialism and corruption, civil war, and migration.
