With the current COVID-19 pandemic we see how there are a variety of responses.
Some communities are rallying around one another and leading with love, while others are leading with fear, resource hoarding, and despair. This interdisciplinary course pulls from fiction, music, religion, and historical moments of crisis to better understand how people have theorized and actualized love in moments where hate and fear mongering appeared insurmountable.

Imagine a world without numbers. Maybe that sounds great; no more math class! But if our brains couldn?t understand numbers at all, the world would be totally incomprehensible. If we can?t tell one from two, we can?t distinguish between objects. If we don?t know what ?enough? is, we wouldn?t be able to have enough food. And how would we get around campus if we never knew how far to go? Together, we will explore how numerical processing influences behavior through animal cognition, human development, cross-cultural, and historical perspectives.

So, Psychometrics is the field of estimating psychological characteristics. Students will learn how to convert the mysterious human mind and behavior into numbers, and why it is important in scientific research.

Why would a lizard take laser vision to a bloody extreme? Together, we will explore bizarre and innovative animal behaviors from the perspective of behavioral variability and evolution. We will specifically focus on the most critical behaviors animals must do to live: eat, and avoid being eaten.

This introductory course provides students with an understanding of the essential concepts and obstacles to women and girls' education including social and cultural challenges, gender gap in education, and educational responses at the international, national, and local levels. This course seeks to help students to critically think about the driving forces ("heroes"- supports and potential fixers of the problem) and the restraining forces ("villains"- forces causing harm) to women and girls' education across the globe with a focus on Africa and South Asia.

Why do we protect water resources? How was acid rain discovered? and what is the future of our water resources? These questions and many more will be answered as we learn about the history of water protection, how these resources are protected today, and discuss what may be in store for their futures. Through case studies we will see how acid rain was discovered in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, and talk about algae preventing people from swimming or fishing in the Great Lakes.
