Group Studio
A practical workshop, centered on a collaborative project, in which designers, dramaturgs and directors create a performance from scratch. The objective is to develop a shared vocabulary and common experiences in the basic process of transforming text or idea into performed event. All members of the studio may be asked to adopt the perspective of actor, director, designer, playwright, or critic.
Machine Learning Theory
When, how, and why do machine learning algorithms work? This course answers these ques- tions by studying the theoretical aspects of machine learning, with a focus on statistically and computationally efficient learning. Broad topics will include: PAC-learning, uniform convergence, and model selection; supervised learning algorithms including SVM, boosting, kernel methods; online learning algorithms and analysis; unsupervised learning with guarantees. Special topics may include: Bandits, active learning, semi-supervised learning and others.

ST- News and Public Opinion
This course is designed to offer a framework for understanding the processes involved in news production and its impact on public opinion. We will examine various social forces that shape news content, including individual, political, economic, and institutional factors. We will also examine research and theory on the implications of today's new media environment, with a focus on its relationship with citizens' engagement in public life.
ST- Fashion and Film
This course offers an introduction to fashion in and on film. It provides a historical, thematic, and international overview (including Hollywood), with a focus on filmic representations of fashion, clothing, and the body. The class format combines lecture, screening, and discussion.
