The SES- First Generation first year seminar explores connections between students' personal interests and their academic interests in the programs of the School of Earth and Sustainability. Emphasis is placed on the experience and perspectives of first-generation college students. The seminar examines the paths and skills that help students connect their future goals to a college curriculum centered around earth science, environmental science and sustainability studies.

Water, energy, and food security are all interconnected, which means that activities in one area can commonly influence one or both of the others. This interaction is referred to as a nexus. Think of agriculture as an example: many people in the world face insecurity with regard to one or more of these needs. In this class, we are going to study the ?water-food-energy nexus.? We will analyze these issues causing these insecurities and come up with creative and sustainable solutions.
