This course is about the unique health needs and health disparities within the LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer) communities, and among the individuals who make up each of these communities. We will learn about gender identity and sexual orientation development in kids and young adults, sexual health, global perspectives, strategies for improving the healthcare experience of LGBT people (e.g., patient-centered and compassionate care), barriers to accessing health care, and many other relevant topics.

First half of a two-semester sequence. With studio. Principles and applications of computer animation using Crater and Alias Maya software in film, video, music, and technology. Introduction to 2D and 3D animation programs. Skills acquired in preparation for production in second semester. Emphasis on professionalism and quality. Should be followed by 397, 3D Computer Animation.

In introduction to Visual Storytelling, students will become better producers and consumers of visual media. Students will develop a deeper visual literacy by studying topics like visual ethics, aesthetics, agency, and the currents of the modern visual journalism ecosystem. By reporting their own video, photography and data visualization projects, students will learn how to control exposure with a DSLR camera, how to capture quality video and how to use different editing and production software. Focus on the use of cost accounting information to help planning and control activities in a business enterprise. Topics include methods for determining the costs of products and services (includes job order, process, standard and activity based cost systems), for assessing product and project profitability, and for budgeting and monitoring costs and profits. Emphasis on usefulness and limitations of cost accounting information.

This course brings together several elements of Psychology through a special topic: medical decision making. In this course, students will study how patients make decisions about their own healthcare and how doctors make diagnostic and treatment decisions for their patients. Students will read two books written by prominent physicians who study decision making along with a set of primary research articles that will be available online. In addition, students will develop a deeper understanding about conducting research in psychology and writing in APA style.

This course is designed to examine sex, gender, and sexuality in multiple contexts. The primary aim of this course is to develop an understanding of the psychology and neuropsychology/neuroscience of sex, gender, and sexuality. Additionally the course will examine how biological and environmental factors influence sex, gender, and sexuality across development and how these factors influence differences in brain and behavior. Course requirements will include reading primary research articles in the fields of psychology, neuroscience, sociology, anthropology, and women's studies.

In the first part of the semester, we will read short fiction and narrative essays from published authors in order to better understand the decisions they made and how those decisions serve their narratives. In other words, we will read and try to understand their decisions by trying to read them as writers would. Students will then complete two short critical essays that analyze the published writing. The second half of the semester, students will write 2-3 creative pieces of writing, either non-fiction or fiction, for discussion and workshop.
